We have seen the highest 3D printed buildings and the longest 3D printed bridges, but in our opinion, LabLab the astronaut, 3D printed in concrete, is contending for the title of the most beloved 3D printed object.
Since its unveiling four months ago, it has become a popular spot for photos for both guests and students of Riga Technical University (RTU), serving as both a mascot for RTU Science and Innovation Centre and an ambassador for 3D concrete printing.
A big thanks to the team that created LabLab, as all the creators, from the designers to the printer operators, were students from various Latvian universities. Thanks also to our supporters SAKRET Baltic.
LabLab is the first 3D printed object in the RTU pilot area, where it also serves as an in-situ test for the durability of 3D concrete, as it’s made from a new mix which is also being tested in laboratory conditions.
In the coming years, several such objects will be created as part of TRANSITION project which aims to create a sustainable and durable 3D concrete dry mix from local raw materials. So, follow this page to see their development.
